About the Embassy

Mission Statement

The mission of the U.S. Embassy in Nepal is to assist Nepal’s development as a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic nation that contributes positively to regional stability. In pursuit of this goal, the United States encourages multi-party democracy, including respect for human rights and the rule of law, and sustainable, market-oriented, and private-sector-led economic development. In addition, the Embassy seeks Nepal’s support on global issues such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, narcotics control, protection for the environment, and prevention of AIDS and other communicable diseases. USAID-Nepal contributes more than $40 million each year to the country's development, and other Embassy and State Department programs encourage mutual understanding between the United States and Nepal. President Bush's personal representative to Nepal is Ambassador Nancy J. Powell.
